Join Urban Strategies Council, the Women’s Environmental Network, and the East Bay Regional Park District (EBRPD) for a free, interactive Civic Season event exploring the history of California’s state parks through nature, art, and community on Saturday, June 27th from 10am - 1pm. Participants will take part in a guided one-mile walk with a naturalist at Serpentine Prairie, learning about California’s state flower, rock, and bird in their natural habitat. The prairie is also home to the rare Presidio Clarkia, an endangered plant found only here and in Presidio of San Francisco. Please dress comfortably. The event will also feature a hands-on cyanotype activity, where participants create sun-powered prints using natural materials, drawing inspiration from the legacy of women who have documented and interpreted the natural world. Throughout the experience, we will highlight and celebrate women’s leadership in expanding access to open spaces and advancing environmental stewardship, connecting past movements to ongoing efforts for equity in public lands. There will also be resources on how to contribute to the EBRPD District Plan update.
