No artistic background needed, snacks and materials will be provided. This is a space for people to deliberate questions like: What is a monument? What shapes does liberation take? What has the last 250 years taught us about freedom? What does a more perfect union look like, and how might we construct it? This salon draws on a tradition of using art to hold difficult civic questions, and invites participants to think about who we remember and why, and invites them to add new names and spaces to the canon. We'll use use air dry clay and guided prompts to explore what their America has been and what it could become. With clay as the conversation starter, the salon creates a space to sit with the practice of remembering, especially what it has carried across 250 years and what we want it to carry forward.
